Oyate Radio app — privacy policy
This policy describes the Oyate Radio mobile app for Android (package org.oyatezambia.radio). Last updated: September 2026.
Who we are
Oyate Radio is operated by Oyate Zambia (“we”, “us”). The app lets listeners tune in to our community radio stream, browse programme information, and optionally send song requests or shout-outs.

What the app does
- Live audio streaming — The app plays our live radio feed. Audio is delivered over the internet from our streaming infrastructure (including HLS streams hosted or relayed via SmatData and our servers at oyatezambia.org).
- Programme & content data — Show schedules, gallery images, and social links are loaded from our API at https://oyatezambia.org/oyate-radio/ (HTTPS).
- Song requests (optional) — If you choose to send a request, you may enter a display name and a short message. This is sent to our server so our team can review it for broadcast. You do not need an account to listen.
- Background playback — The app may continue audio playback while in the background using standard Android media playback services.

The consumer app does not require login, does not access your microphone for recording, and does not request location permission. Staff administration of song requests is handled on our website dashboard, not inside the public listener app.
What we do not collect in the app
- No user accounts or passwords for listeners
- No access to contacts, photos, or files on your device
- No precise location tracking
- No third-party advertising SDKs in the current app release
How data is stored and shared
Song requests and related API data are processed on servers operated for Oyate Zambia at oyatezambia.org. Data in transit uses HTTPS. Stream delivery may involve our streaming provider (SmatData) as a technical processor to deliver audio only.
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Oyate Zambia and our listeners.
Retention & your choices
Song requests may be kept for a reasonable period for broadcast and operational records, then deleted or archived according to our internal practices. You can choose not to submit a request and still use the app to listen.

Children
The app is intended for general audiences. If you believe a child has submitted personal information without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app or our practices change. The “last updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
